Are You Using Your Nasal Spray Wrong?
Many people use Flonase and other nasal sprays for allergies, but most aren’t taught the right way to spray them. In my clinic, I hear the same story all the time:
“I tried Flonase, but it didn’t help my allergies at all!”
Then I ask them to show me how they use it—and almost always, they’re spraying it the wrong way!
Common Mistakes:
Spraying straight back into the throat (you’ll just taste it)
Spraying straight up the middle of the nose or to the center (won’t reach the right spots)
Sniffing while taking the medication
The Right Way to Spray:
Aim sideways—toward the outer corner of your eye (not up your nose!)
No Sniffing—don’t snort hard (that sends it to your throat)
Keep using it daily—it takes weeks to months to work because the medicine/steroid is very mild
Once patients learn the right way, their allergies usually get much better in 1-2 months!
